Kodiak Brown Bear Hunting, Alaska.

Kodiak Brown Bear Hunting, Alaska

Hunting Season:  April 20th – May 10th October 25th – November 3rd

A hunt in Alaska is an experience that lives beyond expectations, and a trip that every sportsman must try at least once, on some level. As the only state to readily hand out licenses for Brown bear it is the obvious state of choice for any bear hunter. Alaska is the only state to house all 3 North American bear species (black bear, brown bear & polar bear). To be able to conduct that hunt on Kodiak island, a location World famous for it’s quantity and size of bears, makes this hunt, in our opinion, the best bear hunt in the World.
The Kodiak brown bear is famous for being the largest in the World, and it is not uncommon to harvest bears of 10ft.

The Kodiak Bear has lived in isolation on the Kodiak archipelago for over 12,000 years, deeming it a separate subspecies of ursus arctos middendorffi. Kodiak island has one of the densest populations of bears anywhere in the World, with an estimated 3,500 on the island that is 0.7 bears per square mile. The protein rich diet of salmon that sustains them for much of the year results in them growing larger than any other bear in the World, making the Kodiak brown bear one of the most sought after on the Planet. If you are hoping to secure the World record Brown bear, then Kodiak Island is the only place you should consider hunting.
The local outfitter that we use on Kodiak Island has been in operation since the 80’s and we feel there is no one more experienced or better suited to help you harvest your dream trophy. We feel that he IS the best outfitter to be able to secure you your dream Bear. In the units that we hunt we secure 10ft bears annually, and although Kodiak has a high number of applicants for brown bear, we feel with this outfitter you have the best odds of not only drawing, but also securing a very respectable bear after your hunt. If you are willing to put in the work, then there is no reason that you should not return with the experience and animal of a lifetime. We cannot recommend this hunt highly enough.

We can arrange hunting in either Spring or Fall for Kodiak bear, with each having it’s own advantages. Bears are generally more active in Spring but their coat tends to be in worse condition with more rubs. In the autumn however, the bear will generally be larger as he has been feeding throughout the summer and will have a thicker coat.
You will be hunting on Kodiak island so should expect to harvest bear of considerable size. It is normal to harvest bears of 9ft but not uncommon to harvest bears of 10ft+, so you truly will be hunting in the best location for bears anywhere on the planet. With such a high population density you should expect to see a number of bears giving you a choice to select your perfect trophy. The hunters biggest enemy anywhere is the weather, an nowhere is that truer than on Kodiak island. The island is a rainforest and receives 70 inches of snow and 70 inches of rain per year, so hunters must be prepared for wet conditions. However on the good weather days, the Island is an area of outstanding natural beauty, and provides one of the most incredible backdrops that can be found on any hunt.

With only 496 permits handed out on Kodiak annually and roughly 5000 hunters applying for them, we cannot guarantee your drawing a permit. However this is something that we have taken into consideration. As Non-Alaska resident hunters, it is a state requirement to be guided. We will therefore enter you into guide draw units, thereby increasing your chances of drawing that dream tag. However we cannot guarantee a draw.
Hunting will either be conducted from the comforts of our lodge or from spike tents, depending on the hunters physical ability, preference and draw units. Kodiak is a stunning location for any hunt and particularly when you are hunting the brown bears, you are stepping into the World of the lucky few. A Kodiak brown bear hunt is a once in a lifetime hunting opportunity.
Alaska is known for its changing and unpredictable weather and Kodiak Island is reknowned for being beautiful, but wet, so please be prepared for rain.
There is also an option to harvest Sitka blacktail Deer on this hunt, with Kodiak being one of the few locations in the US that you can harvest one.

Our services are available throughout Turkey, Europe and across several continents, including Africa and Oceania.
